Welcome to our French Immersion website.  We are extremely proud of our program and the challenging opportunities it provides for our students.  We strongly believe in the benefits that a dual language track education provides, be it acceptance to a wide range of universities, opportunities to work in careers requiring a person to be bi-lingual or the ability to communicate and travel comfortably through greater areas of the world.

Burnsview has offered a French Immersion program since the mid 80’s and we currently have approximately one half of our 800 students enrolled in it. Immersion students come to us primarily from four elementary schools; Chalmers, Devon Gardens, Richardson, and Sunshine Hills.

At Burnsview, Immersion students in grades 8, 9, and 10, take three of their eight yearlong courses in French, followed by two in grade 11 and one in grade 12.  An optional Environmental Studies course is also offered at the grade 10-12 level when enrolment is sufficient .  Immersion students are integrated with our English Program students for their other courses. While we desire all students to complete the full French Dogwood, new at Burnsview is an option for students that must come out of French Immersion to be able to maintain their enrollment in the French Immersion Language classes.

Immersion students are prepared for and have the option to write DELF exams in grades 11 and 12.  Students opting to earn a Dual Dogwood Diploma write a Français langue 12 provincial exam.   Repeatedly we see, our students’ exam performance exceeding both the District and Provincial averages.

Students in grades 8 through 12 also have the opportunity to prepare for and compete in Delta School District’s Concours d’art oratoire.  This event is possible due to the generous support of many volunteers and the Canadian Parents for French, Delta Chapter.

I hope you all find this website useful and interesting.

Sincerely,

Welcome to our French Immersion website.  This year we have decided to create this website to introduce you to the various personalities in our department.  This website is meant to be an source of information about different styles of teaching in our group.  In doing so we hope to build a culture of open communication between the parents, students and teachers in French Immersion at Burnsview.   This website will serve as an introduction to our department, become a source for news and link to individual teacher's homework pages withing the Burnsview website.  We encourage you to communicate directly with your teachers via their Burnsview email address.

Regards,

Danick Benoit
